What Is Activation?
When you install your eBanano eSIM, you’re simply downloading the plan onto your phone. Your data allowance hasn’t started yet, and you haven’t used a single megabyte. Activation is the moment your plan “wakes up” and begins. This is great news: it means you can install days or even weeks before your trip without worrying about your data running out before you’ve even boarded the plane. Your plan’s validity period starts on the day of first activation — not on the date you purchased it.How Activation Works
Depending on your specific eBanano plan, activation is either fully automatic or requires a quick manual nudge.- Automatic Activation
- Manual Activation
Most eBanano plans are set to activate automatically — which means there’s genuinely nothing you need to do. 🎉As soon as your phone lands in your destination country and connects to a local mobile network, eBanano detects the connection and activates your plan in the background. Within a minute or two of landing, you should see data bars appear on your eBanano eSIM line and your plan will be live.Tips for smooth automatic activation:
- Make sure your eBanano eSIM is enabled (not toggled off) before you land
- Confirm that Data Roaming is switched on for your eBanano line (see the iOS or Android guides)
- If you’re on Airplane Mode during your flight, turn it off once you’ve landed and give your phone 60–90 seconds to connect to a local network
Your plan validity starts on the day of first activation, not on your purchase date. So whether you buy your eSIM two weeks in advance or the night before your flight, your data days don’t start counting until you actually switch on and use the plan abroad. No pressure, no rush — install whenever is convenient.
Troubleshooting Activation
If things aren’t going quite to plan, don’t panic. Here are the most common hiccups and how to sort them out.My eSIM is installed but not activating

First, run through this quick checklist:
- Is your eBanano eSIM enabled? Check your Cellular (iOS) or SIM Manager (Android) settings and make sure the line is toggled on.
- Is Data Roaming turned on? This is the most common culprit. Head to your eSIM’s settings and enable Data Roaming — it’s required for connecting to local networks abroad.
- Is your phone connected to a network? Swipe down to check signal bars. If you see “No Service”, try toggling Airplane Mode on and off to force your phone to search for available networks.
- Is eBanano set as your data SIM? Make sure your phone is routing data through the eBanano eSIM line, not your home SIM.
